"Imagine being able to talk to someone who has written a biography about John Muir . . . ."

Angie Anastasion, Sequoia Elementary, Pleasant Hill, CA

"It was interesting how you told us about how hard it could be to be a writer, but how wonderful it is to publish a book."

Brianna, Commodore Skills School, Stockton, CA

"I liked when you showed us how a book turns from a piece of paper to a book. When I heard that you had to rewrite the story twenty times I almost fainted."

Nick, at Joe Michell School, Livermore, CA

INVITE AN AUTHOR TO YOUR SCHOOL

  • I enjoy speaking to groups of about 60 students K through 8th grade in a library or cafeteria where materials related to my writing and book subjects (rejection letters, edited manuscripts, book dummies, press sheets, tree cones, puppets, and so forth) can be easily shared. Students are more relaxed in this small setting . . . and so am I!  However, I am willing to present to larger groups due to the size of a school or its schedule.

  • Students in each session need to be about the same grade/age level so that I can use books of mine that mesh with their age and/or curriculum needs.

  • My talks can be customized to fit the needs of the class or school.

  • I usually talk for about 1/2 hour, depending on the age group, and allow 15 additional minutes for questions. This can vary from grade to grade.

  • I give as many as four of these approximately 45 minute long talks per day.

  • I'd be willing to have a small group of selected students join me to talk informally about writing and books at lunch, with the suggestion that the school provide pizza or other food.

  • I like to visit individual classrooms to talk to students about their on-going creative writing projects.

  • I will bring a limited number of autographed bookmarks for teachers to distribute.  If the school wants to print a greater supply, a master can be provided.

If you are interested in having me come to your school, please e-mail me at plumepal@aol.com.  I'd like some basic information about your school and an approximate date (or dates).  I will be happy to send you further details by mail or e-mail, including my availability.

My school visit fee is currently $800 per day, plus any travel expenses.  Fees for a single talk to an organization are negotiable.
