  • Caroline Arnold is the author of over 100 books on a wide variety of nonfiction topics.
  • Verla Kay writes rhyming books about events in western history.
  • Kathryn Lasky and her photographer husband produce beautiful nonfiction books.

 

  • Patti Newman's website is very appealing and has profiles of and links to many children's authors.
  • Michael Elsohn Ross lives near Yosemite National Park and is the author of numerous books with nature themes.

  • If you are interested in science, find great information at the Try Science site.  Locate science museums. See a live cam view atop Mt. Washington in New Hampshire (the windiest place on earth) or at other exciting places.  Try experiments and take on-line field trips.
  • Discover fun and facts at Yahooligans! (A Web Guide for Kids).
  • Find out all you ever wanted to know about cockroaches.  Why are worms slimy?  Check out these and other yucky, fun facts at the Yuckiest Site on the Internet.

 

WANT TO RESEARCH ON- LINE?

  • Use search engines like Google and Yahoo to explore topics that interest you. Ask Jeeves for Kids is a terrific place to ask questions and get answers on line.
  • Need to find out about weather or what happened on this day in history? Surf to the Farmer's Almanac site!

 

DO YOU LOVE STORYTELLING, reading, OR WRITING?

Check out these websites to learn more :

  • Try sending in some of your poems, stories or art to Stone Soup, a magazine for young writers and artists.
  • Do you want help with grammar, rhyming, or spelling?  Are you interested in crossword puzzles, slang words, word puzzles, or puns?  Check out Word Play.

 

     

 

 

  PARENT, Teacher & librarian resources:

  • Go to the BOOKS link in the menu to your left and click on any individual book that I have written to find the "Activities for Classroom and Library" specific to each book.  Each book page has several ideas on how to use the book and how to learn more about the subject, including links to other web sites.
  • You can find Internet resources related to books for children and young adults at the Children's Literature Web Guide . . .  links to authors, recommended reading, book awards, resources for teachers and parents, and more.
  • Explore Education World to find good links, lesson plans, and book reviews.
  • The New York Times "Teacher Connections" has the Lesson Plan of the Day and their archives make it easy to search previous lesson plans by subject.
