TIPS FOR TEACHERS AND LIBRARIANS:

Julia Morgan, Architect of Dreams

  • Design a building. Do a drawing of the outside, then a more-detailed drawing for one of the rooms. Cut out tiny pieces of furniture and glue them in place.
  • On the Internet, look up famous buildings such as: New York's Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty, or California's Golden Gate Bridge.
  • Read my book and talk about it during Women's History Month in March.
  • Discuss the changing role of women in the workplace.
  • Tour a Julia Morgan building, such as Hearst Castle, near San Simeon, California or the Berkeley City Club, also in California.
  • Watch the KQED/PBS documentary, "Julia Morgan, A Life by Design," to learn more about Julia Morgan.
