ABOUT THIS BOOK:

The first book in a series about different land biomes introduces 13 desert creatures like skunks, bighorn sheep, roadrunners, and kangaroo rats.  A thermometer and clock help you learn about the daily cycle in a environment typical to the American southwest.

ACTIVITIES AND LINKS FOR  KIDS:

  • Plan a family vacation to a desert region.  Be sure to include activities that will take you into the wild areas.  Take time to walk among the rocks, cactus, and other desert plants that you can't see well from your car.  Let me know what animals or unusual plants you spot (you'll probably have better luck in the morning or evening).  I'll post your response on the KID TALK page of my website.
  • Learn more about plants and animals, including endangered species, at the Some Like It Hot site hosted for kids by the Environmental Education department of the Bureau of Land Management.
